A day with John Ellis (photographer)

It was more like a couple of hours because this man shoots fast. He wasn't particularly aiming to break any speed records at the time either. In the short time we spent together he banged out 3 looks before I barely pulled out my camera.

This is the first of hopefully many field reports, part of the Imagefolio Journey, where I attempt to expand my own point of view and simultaneously share the experiences here with you!

John Ellis recently moved to NYC from Virgina obviously to expand his operations. I asked him about the move in rare moment of clarity and focus on my part.

John Ellis: The move to NYC was a bigger culture shock than I expected. The lack of personal space and sometimes uncomfortable living situations threw me off balance for weeks at a time. However, I made the best of it and used the challenges to create better work. At the same time, sought out more talent, while building my team here in the city. My expectation was to spend at least a year of rebuilding in a new market, coupled with quite a bit of networking with other creatives.

So far I have been welcomed with open arms by a good amount in the industry and also others who's work I've been a fan of. It's a mixed bag of emotions for me. I'm pushing my work further than I have been able to in the past. Making connections and trying to keep focused on my grind and business are my priorities.

It's a team thing for John Ellis who is currently building his team(s) and brand. For this quick shoot it was a rather small team.

John Ellis: Goals, goals, goals..... Sustainability has always been a goal from the start. I came into the game as just a hobby and it has changed my life in many ways. So naturally I would love to be financially secure doing what I love the most. While being able to keep creating along the way with great teams.

There you have it. My time with John Ellis live! It's a breath of fresh air to converse with a person I look up to on social media. I hope to do much more of this and share with who ever may be creeping in on this blog in the early stages of this wonderful network!

It's a wrap! check out the gallery from this set in the slideshow below.
